Kim's pick - The Bungalow Club

Location: Los Angeles on Melrose & Formosa
Cuisine: American
Price per person: $25-$65 (incl. drinks)

Kim's pick is the perfect place to have an gathering of up to 25 people. The Bungalow Club offers private rooms, lively bars and and outdoor dining with private bungalows for a romantic dinner with your significant other. We sat in the romantic indoor dining room that can seat about 24 people but 15-20 comfortably. The room features a sofas and intimate dining and boasts of deep colors in the reds, purples and oranges. The Dress code is enforced...although I came in with flip flops but not without a few glares from the bouncer and a couple of patrons.

Kinda sorta liked it...

I recommend this to have a theme party as I did once a few years ago in the outdoor patio. I had a bachelorette party for one of my friends. I've also been on a date there and the bungalows are a nice touch to keep the romance. My eyes were much bigger than my stomach as I ordered several appetizers starting with the Ahi Tuna Tartar (pretty damn tasty), Bangkok Hummus and Avocado eggrolls. For my entree I had the Lobster tail. I'd bank on the tartar and the hummus. The eggrolls and the Lobster tail were good, but if I'm gonna spend that much it's gotta be more flavorful!

Ahi Tuna tartar (what was left of it!)
Avocado Eggrolls
Bangkok Hummus
and...the lobster tail...

I didn't have one of their specialty drinks...just my usual - Tanqueray and tonic with some bitters. I do recommend that you try this but it doesn't have to be at the top of your list. The ambiance was the best part....

Next month's dinner club host is Sherice. As always...2nd Friday of the month. Hope to see you there!!!

Bungalow Club - More "club" than restaurant. Great for dates, but if you're looking for great food, it's pretty hit and miss. Gotta give points to the hummus and mushroom appetizer - but zip for the sushi.

Kinda Like

the ambiance was really fun, and the service was fine... excellent Mac & Cheese but thumbs down on the froo-froo drinks and the apple dessert. The music on the ground floor a bit too loud to carry on a conversation with anyone not sitting directly next to or across from you.

I'd thought I wandered around the place a bit, but in lookig at the pictures on this page, I realize I didn't even see the actual bungalows. Must have been bigger than I thought.

Nice enough experience, and I'm glad to have tried it, but I'm not rushing back anytime soon.

Nah. Pass-a-dena.

Private room and bungalows were cool but I thought the food was a bit lackluster considering the price. Didn't dig the single/hipster/goofball faction either. But that's me for ya. I'm a hater.

Great atmosphere! The crabcake was very good. The "froo froo" drinks were expensive and somewhat "watered" down. I think I would return. My sister enjoyed the location and atmosphere very much.

Nice try, Einstein...It cannot be a place that the host has been before. Kim has never been to the Bungalow Club...I have.

for drinks, appetizers, and hanging out - like it! (the calamari appetizer was yummy!)

for dinner - not sure I like it

While I liked my risotto (it was tasty!), I must say that this spot was more about hanging with friends, having a cocktail, or looking for a date...or maybe all three...which is cool if your in that place in your life. I didn't have a drink and being married...wasn't looking for a date (would have been a little awkward since my husband came to the dinner too)...but hanging with the dinner club crew was FANTASTIC. So, I had a really great time!
